May & June 2007 Flyer Reply

PelicanRadio.com Monthly Flyer May & June 2007 Edition

A Summer ‘tude? – Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope that you are all having a Blessed Summer break. With Stephanie out of school for the Summer and having just gone on vacation, I feel like I’m out of sync. That got me thinking about how much I can be a creature of routine. I miss my routine, even though sometimes I abhor it… the same thing every day… This also got me thinking about my spiritual life and how it is affected by routine just the same. How often do I catch myself “praying” the Our Father at lightning speed, not even thinking about what I’m saying and its significance. Now, don’t get me wrong, the habit of prayer is an excellent habit, but if it becomes a routine, then it loses its main purpose. It makes me think of a comparison, which I hope want trivialize prayer, but will hopefully illustrate what I’m talking about. The first time I went to Disney World more than 30 years ago, I was overwhelmed by everything that I saw, how pretty, how magical and special everything seemed. When I went to Magic Kingdom last month with Stephie’s class I took note of how crowded, expensive and old it was getting. What has gone wrong? Has Disney world changed a lot? Yes, it has, but mostly it is I who has changed, after repeated visits, Disney World has lost its charm for me. Hopefully not oversimplifying things, prayer can become boring, repetitive and a chore. That is the reason why we constantly need to work on it, reminding ourselves that just like a muscle, our spiritual life needs quality practice. You won’t find an Olympic athlete training for their event seating on a sofa in front of the TV, you will find them on the track, the mat or the gym, sweating and pushing themselves a little harder. In fact, the Catechism of the Catholic Church compares prayer to a “Battle”, where we are fighting against the path of least resistance. Prayer is the means by which we remain aware of God’s presence in our lives. The way by which He communicates with us and the manner in which He changes our hearts. Let’s make an effort this summer to take a walk alone, visit the Holy Sacrament or just take sometime for Him to continue building our spiritual muscle, to be prepared for when we have a spiritual battle to fight. God Bless You!

FLYER NEWS UPDATES

I. Live365 or not? – Last time I had reported that PelicanRadio.com had gone independent and that we would no longer transmit through Live365. As we bought new broadcasting software and moved our broadcast to a dedicated computer, we started to broadcast through independent servers, but also through Live365, since we still had an active subscription. It turns out that many people are still listening to PelicanRadio.com through Live365 and since we are broadcasting live now, we don’t have to listen to the Live365 ads anymore. This has led me to the decision to retain the services of Live365 at a small scale, which reminds me to never, say never.

II. Growing and growing – And no, it is not my waistline… well, maybe a little. We keep on adding music to our rotation and we are now playing a rotation of over 2,500 songs. We have taken special attention to add music in Spanish and since many of our listeners are Catholic, we have also added Catholic artists into the mix, along with the latest Christian hits. We hope that you enjoy it and remember to send your requests to dj@pelicanradio.com and we’ll try to include your requests.

III. Tell a friend – As you can imagine, PelicanRadio.com doesn’t have an advertising budget, even though once in a while I’ll splurge and get very limited edition run of PelicanRadio.com pens made for promotion. In reality we depend on you and God. Please invite a friend to listen to us and when you’re home or if you are allowed at work, please tune us in.

Have a Prayerful Summer!
